Grant Thomas says the AFL needs to stop changing or introducing rules to prevent injuries, at the expense of excitement and appeal to younger fans.
Thomas has criticised the AFL for “trying to be too politically correct” and has suggested they stop “listening to society’s moaning too much”.
“The more they do that and turn it into a placid, injury-free game, well that’s not what fans are after,” Thomas said.
“If you speak to any young people these days, they want danger, risk, daring –like all the other sports in the world, they want action and people on the edge of their seats.”
“We’re turning the game into something that’s not appealing to fans, but very appealing to mums and dads.”
